Belton Woods – The Woods Course
Belton Woods is a massive golf complex boasting two 18 hole courses, one 9 hole course, driving range, gym spa\hotel and is located in North Grantham. The venue regularly hosts golf getaways and the lakes course has hosted a number of PGA events. This writeup is for the Woods Course.
The Woods course is the less heralded of the two but is a lot of fun to play. Dad, my brother and I played first thing Sunday morning and I can’t recall ever having to tee off in front of so many people. There were a number of societies playing that day and the tee boxes were in a pretty poor condition. Amazingly though the greens were in fine condition and its credit to the greenskeepers considering the amount of play the courses get.
The first hole is a slight dogleg to the right and an easiest start to the round. Notable holes include the par 4 SI 1 hole 3 where you play to a green which resembles an inverted saucer. The Par 3 fourth where you play from an elevated tee position. The Par 5 fifth where a blind tee shot awaits over a hill and the second played from the highest position on the course. Great views of the English countryside and Grantham on offer here. Finally, the short Par 4 17th which has a well placed water hazard and requires some thought to play. Hard for someone like me who loves hitting driver! In all seriousness, the course is not as good as the Lakes but its a lovely setting and a good place to get away from the rat race for a weekend.
